top gyal ah di month | OCTOBER
At Gyallivant, we believe in uplifting the Black Women and Women of Colour who are making a difference, whether in their careers, communities, or personal lives. Our Top Gyal series shines a spotlight on these inspiring women, highlighting their journeys, accomplishments, and the impact they’re having on those around them. Each month, we feature a new Top Gyal nominated by our community, sharing her story to motivate and uplift others.
This month, we're thrilled to feature Natalie Rare Chattargoon! Known as the Creative Social Service Worker and Arts Educator, Natalie is a force of positivity and resilience. From writing poetry by the lakeshore to helping others find their purpose, she’s dedicated to empowering her community through mind, body, and soul work.

What is your favourite self-care or wellness activity?
I enjoy being by the water, writing poetry by lakeshore or sugar beach. Also, trying new restaurants, taking photos of the evolution of the city and meeting new friends!
What inspired you to pursue the work you're doing, and what drives you to keep pushing forward?
I’ve experienced a series of barriers in my lifetime while creating a name for myself, I grew up in a marginalized community and I love helping others find their purpose through the mind, body and soul. After going through trauma and near death experiences I think it’s fuel for my resilience in my mindset to stay positive. I see the impact within the lives of others when they get support and it makes my heart feel full!
What challenges have you faced along the way, and how have they shaped the person you are today?
In my past I’ve been surrounded by poverty, gun violence, going through domestic violence and bullying growing up. I couldn’t let these matters make me who I am, I’m not a product of my environment - but shaped by mindset.
What advice would you give to other Black Women/Women of Colour looking to make an impact in their communities?
I’d say to network within the industry you wish to be in, lead with kindness and care. Take time to hear the stories of others, help others if you can and don’t forget to smile & laugh! That’s healing!
